I completely revamped my food intake and my lifestyle a few years ago, because my endocrinologist told me that my kidneys were having a bit of a problem as a result of my type 2 diabetes. I was on 3 types of insulin and several kinds (heck…several kinds too many!) of prescription drugs back then – oh and yes, I had blood pressure and cholesterol problems too!
Suffice it to say that a few years ago, I relied on medication and didn’t really think about imbibing a healthier routine and healthy eating habits to nip my health issues right at the bud! It wasn’t easy when I first decided to start eating healthy ‘coz I didn’t know where to start. Back then, it seemed easier to just give in to old habits and to keep eating all the junk that I’ve grown accustomed to. It was my scary quarterly lab test results that motivated me to make changes in my life. It was pretty obvious that my growing number of prescriptions wasn’t enough to address my health issues back then.
I’d have to say that all the research and all the changes I made were all worth it. A few years of healthy living finally led to delightful A1C and blood panel test results. I am still considered a pre-diabetic but I am in no risk of the complications connected to having full blown type 2 diabetes! Also, I don’t use any form of insulin anymore and I could not be happier!
This journey made me realize that conquering Type 2 Diabetes is all about being more physically active and educating yourself about products and ingredients that are good for you! Healthy eating DOES NOT have to be bland and boring. Exercising DOES NOT have to be a form of physical punishment.
I hope all the products and recipes that I have been sharing here on my blog will help a lot of you out there, who are struggling with this debilitating health condition! Health, after all, is wealth!
